Notarised Translation for Birth Certificate in UK

A notarised translation for birth certificate in UK is what you need when your paper is going out of the country. Embassies in London, foreign town halls and overseas registry offices ask for it. They want a UK notary to check the page before they will look at it.

If you are sending your certificate to a UK office instead, you probably do not need this at all. The Home Office, UKVI, HM Passport Office and register offices all take a certified translation. Tell us where your paper is going and we will say which one you need. That advice is free.

We do the translation and the notary step together, in over 200 languages, and post the finished set to you or straight to the office that asked for it.

Certified or Notarised Birth Certificate Translation β€” Which One Do You Need?

People ask us this every day, and plenty pay for the wrong one. The two are not the same thing, and only one of them is usually needed.

Here is the difference in plain words:
  • Certified: we translate the paper and sign to say the translation is true and correct. This is what UK offices want.
  • Notarised: a notary public then checks and stamps our signature. This is what foreign offices want.

A notary does not read your language or mark our work. The notary checks who signed the page and puts an official stamp on it. Foreign offices trust that stamp because a notary is a legal officer here in the UK.

So if your certificate is going to an embassy, a foreign town hall or a registry office in another country, you need the notary step. If it is going to the Home Office, HM Passport Office or a UK register office, you do not. Our birth certificate translation service UK covers both, and we will tell you which one fits before you spend anything.

Order Your Notary Public Translation for Birth Certificate Today

Send us a photo and tell us which office asked for it. If you need the notary step we will price the whole thing in one go. If you do not need it, we will say so and save you the money. Either way you get an answer the same working day.

Who Asks for a Notarised Translation of Birth Certificate for Overseas Use?

Almost every job we notarise is leaving the country. These are the six reasons people come to us, taken from the work we actually do.

An Embassy or Consulate in London

The Iraqi, Ecuadorean, Portuguese, Polish, Italian and Philippine offices in London all ask for this. They want your paper in their language with a notary stamp on it. Tell us which embassy and we will match what they asked for.

Adding a Birth or Marriage to Your Home Records

Your child was born here, or you married here, and now your own country wants it on their books. Germany, Portugal, Italy and Poland all work this way. The UK paper has to go into their language first, with the notary stamp.

A Residence Card in Another Country

Moving to France, Spain, Italy or Portugal and applying to stay? The local office asks for your birth certificate in their language. A French carte de sΓ©jour is the one we see most.

Claiming Another Country's Passport

Italian, Polish, German, Spanish and Ecuadorean citizenship claims all start with your birth certificate. These files are checked slowly and closely, so a missing stamp can cost you months of waiting.

You Have Been Told to Get an Apostille

An apostille is a government stamp for papers going abroad. The government will only stamp a signature it knows, and a notary is one of those. So the notary step comes first, then the apostille. We can set both up together.

A Court, a Bank or a Family Estate Abroad

Property, inheritance and court files in another country need proof of who you are. A birth certificate with a notary stamp is the usual way to give it. Send us the letter you were sent and we will follow it word for word.

Best Way to Get Your Birth Certificate Translated and Notarised in UK

Three steps, and the first one takes a minute on your phone. You keep your original the whole way through.

Step-1

Take a photo of both sides in good light. Then write one line telling us which office asked for it β€” an embassy, a town hall, a court, a bank. If they sent you a letter or an email listing what they want, forward that too. It is the fastest way for us to get this right first time.
Step-2

A person reads your document and your letter. Sometimes the answer is that a certified translation is enough and you can skip the notary. When you do need it, you get one fixed price covering the translation, the notary stamp and the post. Nothing is added at the end.
Step-3

The translation is done, the notary signs and stamps it, and the pages are fixed together so they cannot come apart. You get a scan by email and the paper set by post. We send it to you, or straight to the embassy or office, in the UK or abroad. If an apostille is next, we can arrange that too.

UK’s Top Notarised Translation Agency for Birth Certificates

Anyone can add a notary stamp and charge you for it. What helps is knowing when you need one, what the office on the other end is going to ask for, and what comes after.

We Say No When You Do Not Need It

Most people who ask us for a notary are sending papers to a UK office and do not need one. We tell them. It costs us a sale and it is still the right thing to say.

Translation and Notary in One Place

You do not have to find a translator, then find a notary, then hope the two pieces fit. We handle both, and the pages are joined so nobody can pull them apart.

We Know What Order It Goes In

Translate, notarise, then apostille. Do it in the wrong order and you pay twice. People come to us after that has already happened, which is how we know.

Send Us the Letter They Sent You

Every embassy words it a bit differently. Forward what you were sent and we follow it line by line, rather than guessing and hoping it passes.

A Person Reads It, Not Software

Old records, faded ink, writing up the side of the page. A machine skips those. Someone sits down with your paper and reads all of it, including the back.

Your Papers Stay Private

A birth certificate holds your parents' names and where you were born. Only the translator, the checker and the notary see it. We pass it to nobody else.

People sending papers to an embassy, a town hall or a court in another country. Some were told exactly what to get. Some had no idea and asked us first. They say what happened when the office on the other end opened the envelope.

Used It for Driving Licence Application

I needed to show my birth certificate for my UK driving licence, but it was in Czech. I used this service to get it translated. It was fast, cheap, and accurate. The DVLA accepted it with no problem. Everything was easy from start to end. Thanks a lot!

My Ecuadorean Citizenship File Moved

English into Spanish, with the notary. The embassy had been slow with me before, so I expected another delay. Their translator got the wording right and nothing came back.

Italian Passport Claim Finally Started

Jure sanguinis, so everything gets checked twice. Three birth certificates and a marriage certificate, all into Italian with the notary. Their Italian translator clearly knew what a comune looks for.

Portuguese Embassy Marriage Record Done

Our marriage had to go on the Portuguese books. I had no idea what forms were needed. The office here read the embassy email and told me exactly what to send.

Polish Consulate and PESEL Number

Two things at once. Their team did my certificate into Polish and told me which copy the consulate keeps. I only had to go once instead of twice.

Notarised Translation for Birth Certificate – Frequently Asked Questions

It comes down to one thing: where is the paper going?

If it is going to a UK office, certified is enough. That covers the Home Office, UKVI, HM Passport Office, register offices, councils, schools and universities. None of them ask for a notary.

If it is going out of the country β€” an embassy, a town hall, a foreign court β€” then you need the notary step. Send us your document and say who asked for it. We will tell you which one, free, before you buy anything.

This surprises people. The notary does not read your language and does not mark the translation.

What the notary checks is who signed the page. They see the translator's identity and their signature, then add their own signature and stamp to say it is genuine.

So the accuracy comes from us, and the extra weight comes from the notary. A foreign office trusts that stamp because a notary is a legal officer here.

No. A certified translation is what they want, and that is the end of it.

We say this plainly because a lot of people tick the notary box on a visa or passport order without needing to. It costs more, takes longer, and the caseworker will not treat it any differently.

If somebody has told you otherwise, ask them to put it in writing and send it to us. In nearly every case it turns out to be a misunderstanding.

The notary comes first. The order matters and getting it wrong means paying twice.

An apostille is a government stamp for papers going abroad. The government only stamps a signature it already knows, and a notary's signature is one of those. A plain translator's signature is not.

So the run is: translate, notarise, then apostille. Tell us if an apostille is coming and we will set the whole chain up in the right order.

Translation starts at Β£25 a page. The notary is charged on top, because a notary is a separate legal officer with their own fee.

You get one figure covering all of it:

  • The translation
  • The signed certificate of accuracy
  • The notary's signature and stamp
  • UK postage

Nothing is added later. If an apostille is needed too, we price that at the same time so you see the full cost in one go.

The translation itself is usually 24 to 48 hours. The notary adds a day or two on top, because the pages have to go in front of a real person to be signed.

An apostille takes longer again and is out of our hands, as that part sits with a government office.

Tell us your deadline when you send the photo. We will say straight away whether it can be done, and we will not take the order if the answer is no.

From the work that comes through our door, these are the regulars:

  • The Iraqi, Ecuadorean, Portuguese, Polish, Italian and Philippine offices in London
  • Town halls in Italy, Poland, Germany and Portugal adding a UK birth or marriage to their records
  • French offices handling a carte de sΓ©jour
  • Citizenship claims for Italy, Poland, Germany, Spain and Ecuador

Each one words its request a little differently. Send us what they sent you and we match it rather than guessing.

Yes, and most notary work goes that way. Your UK birth certificate turns into Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish or Arabic so an office abroad can read it.

It makes sense when you think about it. A UK paper is already in English, so nobody here needs it translated. It is the office in the other country that cannot read it.

No. A clear photo or scan is all we need and your original stays with you.

Take the picture in daylight, fit all four corners in, and do both sides. Stamps and notes are often on the back, and an office that sees writing on your original which is missing from the translation will send it back.

A few embassies do want to see the original alongside the translation. Keeping it safe with you is exactly why we do not ask for it.

Yes. Give us the address when you order and it goes there rather than to you.

We post anywhere in the UK and abroad, which matters when the office is in Rome, Warsaw or Lisbon rather than London. UK postage is inside the price you were quoted, and tracked delivery costs a little extra with the number passed on to you.

You also get a scan by email, so you can check every page before the paper set leaves us.
