About Us

Who We Are

We are a UK translation company. We translate birth certificates, and we do very little else.

That narrow focus is on purpose. A birth certificate looks like a simple page, but the offices that read it are strict about small things — a missing date, a name spelt two ways, a stamp on the back that nobody translated. We see the same problems every week, so we know what to look for before you send anything.

We work with people applying for a British passport, a UK visa, settlement, citizenship, a school place, a marriage, and with people sending UK papers out to an embassy abroad.

Where We Are Based

We are based in Birmingham.

33 Willmore Road, Birmingham, B20 3JH, United Kingdom
Phone: +44 7482 545337
Email: info@birthcertificatetranslationuk.co.uk

The address is on every translation we issue, next to our phone number. That matters more than it sounds. When a caseworker or a registrar wants to check a translation, they need somewhere real to check it against.

Our Credentials

We are an ATC accredited company — the Association of Translation Companies.

The translators who sign your documents are members of the ITI (Institute of Translation and Interpreting) or the CIOL (Chartered Institute of Linguists).

This is not a detail. UK government guidance says a translation should come from a translator registered with a professional body, or from a recognised translation company. Customers write to us quoting that line before they order. One told us their embassy would only take work from someone registered with CIOL or ITI, and nothing else.

Our membership details are printed on every translation we send out, not just claimed on this page.

What We Do, and What We Do Not Do

We do:

  • Translate birth certificates into English for UK offices
  • Translate UK birth certificates into other languages for offices abroad
  • Arrange the notary step when a foreign office asks for it
  • Translate the papers that usually travel with a birth certificate — marriage certificates, divorce decrees, name change deeds, ID cards

We do not:

  • Give immigration advice. We are translators, not advisers. If you need help with the application itself, speak to a solicitor or an OISC registered adviser.
  • Issue apostilles. That is a government stamp. We can tell you the right order to do things in, and arrange it, but the stamp itself is not ours.
  • Translate your own certificate for you to certify yourself. Nobody can do that. The translation has to come from someone independent.

Saying this plainly saves everyone time. People arrive here with the wrong idea about all three.

What Goes on Every Translation

UK offices look for the same five things. All five are on every page we issue, and there is no extra charge for any of them.

  1. A line saying this is a true and accurate translation of the original
  2. The date the translation was done
  3. The translator’s full name and signature
  4. Their professional membership — ATC, ITI or CIOL
  5. Our UK company name, address, phone number and email

We also translate everything on the paper, not just the boxes. Stamps, seals, side notes, handwriting, and anything printed on the back. A translation that leaves something out is the one that gets sent back.

The Services We Offer

We have a separate page for each of the main reasons people come to us. Each one explains what that particular office is checking for.

Birth certificate translation for UK immigration — for settlement, indefinite leave to remain, citizenship and MN1 child registration.

Birth certificate translation for a passport application — our busiest service. Most of these are parents applying for a first British passport for a child born in Spain, Brazil, Germany, France or Italy.

Birth certificate translation for a UK visa and the Home Office — visitor, student, spouse, family and work routes, and anything going to a visa application centre.

Birth certificate translation for UK schools and universities — council school places, college enrolment, university offers, UK ENIC and student finance.

Birth certificate translation for marriage registration — for giving notice at a register office, and for weddings taking place abroad.

Notarised translation of a birth certificate — for embassies, foreign town halls and overseas registry offices. Read this one before you buy it. Most people who ask for a notary do not actually need one.

The Languages We Work In

We translate from more than 200 languages into English. The ones we handle most are Spanish, French, Portuguese and German, followed by Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Polish, Ukrainian, Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, Bengali, Persian, Turkish and Russian.

We also work the other way round, turning UK documents into another language for an office abroad. These are the language pairs we have a dedicated page for:

If your language is not listed, ask anyway. A page here does not mean we only do those seven.

Who Comes to Us

Looking at the work that actually arrives, our customers are mostly:

  • Parents whose child was born abroad, applying for a first British passport
  • Adults who have just received British citizenship and now need a passport
  • People part-way through a visa, settlement or ILR application
  • Couples giving notice of marriage at a register office
  • British and dual nationals claiming a second passport from Italy, Poland, Germany or Spain
  • Families arriving in the UK and applying for school places
  • Solicitors, immigration advisers and university admissions teams ordering for other people

Around a quarter of our orders come from outside the UK — from Spain, Brazil, Germany, Switzerland, India and the UAE. You do not have to be here to use us. We post to any address.

How We Work

Step one — send a photo. A phone picture in good light is enough. Photograph both sides. You keep your original; we never ask you to post it.

Step two — we read it and quote. A person looks at your document before any price is given. If you have sent the short version of a certificate, or a page is missing, you hear about it now rather than after you have paid. One fixed price covers the translation, the certification page and standard UK postage.

Step three — you get it back. A PDF by email, and a signed paper copy by post if you want one. We can send the paper copy to you, to your solicitor, or straight to the office that asked for it.

Most jobs are back within 24 to 48 hours. Same day is possible when a deadline is close. We confirm the date before taking payment, and if we cannot meet it, we say so rather than taking the order.

Your Documents and Your Privacy

A birth certificate carries your date of birth, your place of birth and your parents’ names. We treat it accordingly.

Your file is seen by the translator, the person who checks their work, and the notary if one is involved. Nobody else. We do not pass your details to anyone, and we do not use your documents for anything other than your order.

You can read the full privacy policy and our terms and conditions.

What Our Customers Say

We are rated 4.9 out of 5. You can read what people have written on our reviews page.

The reviews worth reading are the ones where something went slightly wrong — a document came back from an office, a certificate turned out to be the short version, a name did not match a passport. How a company handles those tells you more than a five-star review for an easy job.
